MAKE A FLAG**, or TAKE A FLAG,
and FLY IT 4THEPLANET and 4PEACE

There is a growing grassroots movement of citizens that are taking a visible stand in public for the protection of our planet and for sustainable peace.

We invite you to join us in support of this critical movement by using the GREENFLAGS pages to create or download flags and signs that you can "fly" in order to "become the media" as well.

Flaggers are requested to fly a flag/sign in as many locations as possible - such as at home, at work, on their car, and on a backpack. Flag actions are a superb way to score points in the EARTH ACCORD. Check WWW.EARTHACCORD.ORG for more info.

__________ MAKE A GREENFLAG FOR THE PLANET
With cloth, cardboard, or computer, create a flag to inspire others to join in actions for planet and peace and to be become a hero for millions of life-forms.

**The word "FLAG" is used to indicate any flag or sign-like object with words or symbols that is used to take a stand and encourage environmental action.

If you want to hand-make a cloth flag, choose and write a message or design from the FLAG MESSAGE section onto a piece of non-stretch, light-colored cotton fabric from an old shirt, sheet, or other clothing, with black or color permanent markers. Caution: Some permanent markers might run or fade. Tacking the fabric to a piece of cardboard can make writing the message on the flag easier.

The size of the flag you make will depend on whether it is:
• A big flag for your yard,
• A cardboard flag for your front home window or your car,
• On a t-shirt or backpack,
• A small triangular flag for your lapel.

A good size for hanging in a your yard or even on a backpack might be about 12 inches square. A triangle is a good shape for a lapel flag as it can be attached with one pin and it hangs well. Circles are a good shape for patches.

If you have made a cloth flag, you can attach the the flag to a cord or string and then tie it between two poles or trees (prayer-flag style) or attached to a diagonal flagpole. Here are several "middle of the string" loop knots that can be easily tied to the corners of the flags.: the fine ol' clove hitch, the better rolling hitch, and the strong, tightest constrictor hitch. To create an adjustable knot that you can to tie the two ends to a pole check out the midshipmans hitch/tautline.

Flying several GreenFlags on a line in prayer-flag style is a powerful way to invite friends and neighbors to join in positive actions for our planet.

If you want to use a computer to design your flag/sign that's great too. Use a text editor to add and format a message to fit on a standard piece of paper that you turn into a flag/sign. Any of the slogans or quotes that you find on this page would make a good flag. Addressing a current environmental issue, governmental action or environmental campaign in your flag(s) is also great.

If you make a good looking flag, share it with others by taking a picture of it and upload the picture to the EARTHACCORD PHOTO ALBUM, or email it to GREENTOPIAORG-4@YAH()().COM

~~~~~
__________ TAKE A GREENFLAG FOR THE PLANET
In general, if you find a picture on the web that would make a good flag/sign, right click on an image to download it, then enlarge it if needed (most computer systems come with at least one simple graphics program), and then print it out. If wanted, you can print out a big version of a picture that you find at many of the bigger copy stores.
~~~~~

__________ FLAG MAKING PARTIES
Getting your friends and family together to make enviro flags can be a great way to inform and motivate others, and have a bunch of fun. Participants can make flags and signs for themselves and for others as gifts. Please take pictures of the best flags made at your party to upload to the EARTHACCORD PHOTO ALBUM.
~~~~~
__________ FLAG TAGGING
A GREENFLAG TAG is nickname added to a flag by the person who made the flag. If you want to, add a GREENFLAG TAG to your flag. If your GREENFLAG TAG is also your EARTHACCORD Yahoo Group Profile name, it will be easier for the EARTHACCORD awards committee to verify, nominate, and contact you for one of the awards. The EARTHACCORD GROUP/FORUM page is where you can create your Profile/Flag Tag. Adding a GREENFLAG TAG to your flag is optional.
__________ ZENITH
Welcome Earth Lovers,
Every day each of us has either a positive or negative effect on the environmental actions of others. By not making our environmental commitments known to others, we appear to be saying that we are endorsing the anti-environment status quo. So team up with others in the EARTHACCORD network for the protection of our sweet planet by flying your flags today.
Respectfully, Stele Ely
(Upon signing of the Wilderness Act, 1964) If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it. - President Lyndon B. Johnson
LOVE YOUR MOTHER
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. Savannas are magnificent wildflower gardens. Something is always blooming grass pink orchids, rose pogonia, rosebud orchids, ladies' tresses. In the heat of the summer the fringed orchids are torches through the meadows. Blue-eyed and yellow eyed grass, white eyed sedge. Meadow beauties. Fall brings on the composites, purple spires of liatris, also called blazing star, brown rayless sunflowers, goldenrod, bigelowia and coreopsis. EXTINCT IS FOREVER
The civilized people of today look back with horror at their medieval ancestors who wontonly destroyed great works of art or sat slothfully by while they destroyed. We have passed this stage... Here in the U.S. we turn our rivers and streams into sewers and dumping grounds, we pollute the air, we destroy our forests and exterminate fishes, birds and mammals - not to speak of vulgarizing charming landscapes with hideous advertisements. But at best it looks as if our people were awakening. - Theodore Roosevelt,
SUPPORT ORGANIC FARMERS
We end, I think, at what might be called the standard paradox of the 20th century: our tools are better than we are, and grow faster than we do. They suffice to crack the atom, to command the tides. Think day and night about it and you will see a miracle happen: the greatness of our own life. - Robert Muller. Former Assistant Secretary General United Nations
God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches and a thousand tempests and floods. But He cannot save them from fools. - John Muir
